The screener behind most online ADHD tests

The ASRS-v1.1, explained

The Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS-v1.1) is the 18-item questionnaire that nearly every credible online ADHD test is built on. Here's what it measures and where it stops.

Part A (6 items)

The screening core. These six questions carry the most predictive weight for adult ADHD. Four or more responses in the shaded range suggest symptoms consistent with ADHD and warrant a full evaluation.

Part B (12 items)

Additional inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive items. They do not change the screen result but give your provider a richer symptom map before your first visit.

Scoring

Each item is rated Never / Rarely / Sometimes / Often / Very Often over the past 6 months. The ASRS-v1.1 was developed with the World Health Organization and is one of the best-validated adult ADHD screeners available.

Limits

The ASRS screens; it does not diagnose. It cannot distinguish ADHD from anxiety, depression, trauma, sleep deprivation, or thyroid problems — which is exactly why a clinical interview follows.

FAQ

Common questions about online ADHD testing

Can I get tested for ADHD online?

Yes. Adult ADHD is a clinical diagnosis made through a structured interview, validated rating scales, and a careful review of your history — all of which can be done over a secure video visit. There is no blood test or brain scan that diagnoses ADHD, so an online evaluation with a qualified psychiatric provider covers the same ground as an in-person one.

Is online ADHD testing accurate?

It is as accurate as the clinician and the tools behind it. A quick 5-question quiz is not an evaluation. A thorough online assessment uses validated instruments (ASRS-v1.1, CAARS-2, WURS for childhood history, PHQ-9 and GAD-7 to screen look-alike conditions), a full developmental and medical history, and optional collateral input from someone who knows you well. Research on telepsychiatry consistently finds diagnostic agreement with in-person care for adult ADHD.

Is the free self-test a diagnosis?

No. The free MindCare self-test is a structured screening tool. It tells you how strongly your experiences line up with adult ADHD and with commonly overlapping conditions, and it gives your provider a head start. Only a licensed clinician can diagnose ADHD.

How long does the self-test take?

About 10 minutes. You get an instant snapshot of your results at the end, and you can send those results directly to the clinical team from the results screen.

What happens after I take the test?

You review your snapshot, optionally send it to our team, and book a comprehensive evaluation with Tyler Davis, PMHNP-BC (ADHD-CCSP certified). She reviews your screening results before the visit, completes the clinical interview, rules out mimicking conditions, and builds a treatment plan with you.

Can I be prescribed ADHD medication after an online evaluation?

When it is clinically appropriate, yes. Non-stimulant options can be prescribed in every state we serve. Controlled stimulant medications are prescribed only in California, Arizona, Oregon, and Washington, in line with current DEA telehealth rules.

Do I need childhood records?

Helpful, not required. Adult ADHD requires evidence of symptoms before age 12, which is usually established through a retrospective history (and sometimes a parent, partner, or close friend completing an observer scale). Report cards and old evaluations are welcome if you have them.
